Education does not have to appear rigid
within four walls of a classroom. In reality, it is happening
all the time, each day of a person’s life. Education can
and should be actively sought out, and to make it meaningful
is the way to accomplish this. To expand a child’s thinking
about approaching education in the forms of reading, extracurricular
activities that inspire thought and creativity, as well as seeking
out museums, music performances and theatre, enables a child
to not only learn, but to appreciate what he/she is learning,
and finally, to be proud of the accomplishment of learning.
With this sense of pride and true appreciation
of what is being learned, the student has almost everything he/she
needs to be successful in the world today. However, within the
Catholic school environment, the additional advantage is that
we have our Faith to guide us to become responsible, loving,
and forgiving human beings. Enabling the student to be Christ-like
within the classroom not only shapes the behavior in the classroom.
The student learns to truly live his/her life in a way that is
God-centered, whether it is at school, at home, or in the community.
It is this combination of love of education and well as love
for God that can be reflected back into the world by the student
who is nurtured in this way.
